From zombies to a 'word-rave' to the dark caverns of the internet: more programme known

Today, we announce three new performances from the main programme as well as the first name from the music programme. From Italy comes world-renowned director Romeo Castellucci with an incisive word-rave, the promising young company La Tristura presents their performance Zombie Girls for the first time outside their homeland Spain, and Norwegian De Utvalgte takes an unexpected dive into the dark caverns of the internet. Buck Meek (Big Thief) travels from the United States for a Concert in mirror tent Pollux in Noorderplantsoen.

Behind the scenes, a team of very nice people are busy putting together the programme, picking festival tents, making fun plans and so much more. We will tell you more about it through our channels in the coming months. With today the second set of performances from the main programme and the first name from the music programme!

Three announcements from the international main programme:

  • Romeo Castellucci – The Third Reich (Italy)
World-renowned theatre director Romeo Castellucci presents his penetrating cinematic 'word-rave' The Third Reich, full of dark questions about fascism then and now. At overwhelming speed, thousands of words are fired at you. What still has meaning in this terrifying overload of information?
  • La Tristura/Celso Giménez – Zombie Girls (Spanje)
One of today's most promising young Spanish companies, La Tristura, returns to the festival. With Zombie Girls, a coproduction by Noorderzon and Grand Theatre, they take you into a personal story that touches on Spain's political history in their quirky and engaging style.
  • De Utvalgte – My Twisted World (Noorwegen)
Award-winning Norwegian company De Utvalgte (the chosen ones) takes an unexpected dive into the dark corners of the internet with My Twisted World, a moving play of identities and fantasies and two searching men trying to help each other - and you - move on.

The first name from the music programme:

  • Buck Meek - Concert in Pollux (United States)
Also known as that hulking guitarist from Big Thief. Buck Meek makes beautiful hushed songs for lost souls, lost dogs and forgotten youth. His self-titled debut album explores the boundaries of American folk and country rock, which sounds like a peaceful, warm day on an American ranch in the middle of a vast meadow.

About the programme of Noorderzon 2023
As always, we are very much engaged with the world around us, which is also the focus of our programme. Because what is happening around us and where is it happening? What do people talk about a lot, what keeps us busy? As always, not just with the intention of entertaining you, but also to give you new thoughts and perhaps insights. "Today's world is in full conversation and good listening is desperately needed. Noorderzon is a place of both talking and good listening." - Says Mark Yeoman, our artistic director about the programme.

Ticket sales will also be in stages this year, with the 17th of the month playing a key role. On 17 June, the entire main programme goes on sale, and on 17 July you can buy tickets for the full programme of the festival. We will announce more and more programme and details in the run-up to the festival. If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be the first to receive the latest news and be the first to buy tickets.
