Noorderzon and Grand Theatre co-produce new work by promising Spanish company

Noorderzon and Grand Theatre have joined forces for a co-production by Spanish company La Tristura. The makers are currently in residence at Grand Theatre, the theatre on the Grote Markt, to work on their latest performance. This Friday, they will present the first version of Zombie Girls (work in progress) to a small group of interested parties. Noorderzon is proud to support these young makers in Groningen in their creative process.

La Tristura has been labelled one of the most promising Spanish companies of the moment: "The younger Spanish generation of creators is characterised by fearlessness in the face of difficult issues, and a bold theatrical style and form, often with a good dose of, usually rather dark, humour. I love their work for all these qualities. The script for this new show, about the director's father who 'no longer lives' to escape persecution, reads like a dream, so I am very excited to go and see their work-in-progress at the end of this week," said Mark Yeoman, artistic director of both Noorderzon and Grand Theatre.

The makers from Spain are no strangers to both organisations. They first appeared at Noorderzon in 2019, for instance, with their widely acclaimed performance Future Lovers (unplugged). In December 2020, they returned for a residency at the Grand Theatre to work on the performance Renaissance, a theatrical rebirth reflecting on Spain's history, present and future. . The performance was co-produced with dancers and technicians from Groningen during the limited corona edition of the festival in August 2021. Renaissance was also a co-production of Noorderzon and Grand Theatre.
