Programme takes shape: first performances announced for 36th edition

From an epic fable about war and resistance to a poetic exploration of birth and memory, and from critical reflections on our automated society to a raw ode to labour: today, Noorderzon announces the first performances from its main international theatre and dance programme. Featuring acclaimed and upcoming makers from the international performing arts scene such as Dead Centre, Mario Banushi, Ant Hampton, Louis Vanhaverbeke and Oulouy, these first announcements reveal the beginnings of a multifaceted programme centred around humanity, imagination and resistance.

The first glimpses of the festival programme

Dead Centre (Ireland)
Deaf Republic

We open the festival with an epic, contemporary fable about war, humanity and collective resistance, told through spoken English, sign language, creative surtitles and silence. Dead Centre return to Noorderzon for the fourth time.

Mario Banushi (Greece/Albania)
RAGADA

A raw, poetic exploration of birth, the body and memory that gets under your skin: a reworking of the debut piece by one of Europe’s most exciting emerging theatre-makers, Mario Banushi.

Ant Hampton / Time Based Editions (Belgium/Greece)
Every Second of Downtime

Audience favourite Hampton explores our age of advanced automation, life in a consumer society, and what remains of our humanity in a world that is steadily dismantling itself.

Louis Vanhaverbeke (Belgium)
Tractor Rhapsody

A raw, musical ode to labour and recovery, in which Louis Vanhaverbeke, together with his agricultural machines, reconnects with the rhythm of the land.

Oulouy (Spain)
Black

A story tracing the heartbeat of Black liberation movements across generations through masterful choreography inspired by Afrodiasporic street dance traditions.

The temporary programme page will be updated with more programme announcements every week.
