Setup has begun
Today, the build-up for Noorderzon 2025 has officially begun. Over the next ten days, the familiar festival village will once again take shape in the Noorderplantsoen – complete with performance spaces, bars and terraces, installations, stages, children’s areas, and of course the iconic strings of lights stretching across the park. Venues in the city centre are also preparing for what’s to come. Starting Thursday, August 14, the 35th edition of Noorderzon will truly come to life.
What Can You Expect in the Park?
In the northern part of the Noorderplantsoen, you’ll find venues such as Atlas and Nova, as well as the brand-new open-air cinema Cinema Nova. Directly across from it is Apollo, the music stage where you can catch free performances every evening. Also in this area: the pondside terraces Paradijsvogel and De Raaf, and Podium De Raaf, offering daily free concerts and activities.
Further south lies De Speelweide – a dedicated area for children. Here you’ll also find the Pollux spiegeltent, the go-to spot for talks, discussions, literature, and music. At Callisto, another music stage, you can enjoy multiple free concerts every day.
New this year is Eos, featuring pop-up gallery De Nieuwe Editie. Throughout the park, you’ll come across groups of containers hosting intimate small-scale performances. Naturally, there’s also a wide variety of food and drinks from local vendors, as well as several art installations to discover.
And in the City?
In the city centre, we’ll be taking over venues such as Grand Theatre, Forum, VRIJDAG Theater, Het Houten Huis, Vera, Lutherse Kerk, Usva, Het Werk, Paradijsvogeltuin, DOT, and Het Hoogtepunt. Check out all the venues online for more info.
First Artists Are Already Arriving
The first international artists are already starting to arrive in Groningen. Australian choreographer Alisdair Macindoe (creator of the AI dance performance Plagiary) will soon be busy rehearsing, as will the Lebanese theatre collective Zoukak, who will present two productions at this year’s Noorderzon.
