My dog ate my homework

Chiara recalls the classic excuses children in the UK would use to avoid handing in homework or explain being late. In the Netherlands, a famous one is: ‘the bridge was up’.

Sorry, the bridge was up

For Noorderzon Chiara developed My dog ate my homework, a sculptural work that mimics the archetypal form of a bridge, but is placed entirely out of context. The result is a quietly surreal encounter. The bridge, a symbol of connection, becomes something more ambiguous: a metaphor, an obstacle, a question mark. Visitors are invited to pause, observe, and reconsider what they see. The artwork gently disrupts expectations, shifting between the familiar and the out-of-place.

At indicated times, the artist will lower the bridge and raise it again - an action both performative and symbolic.
