A loving punch in the gut for those afraid of movement. You grow older. Heavier. Thinner. Your hair grows. Everything shifts. Always. You (too) are in transition.

A performance like a DJ set, a DJ set like a performance — this short show, like most people, sits right in between everything. TRANS- is, during Noorderzon, a 25-minute EDM (electronic dance music) set inside one of the containers on the festival grounds. And during Noorderzon, the performance itself will also be constantly in transition. By continually switching which elements appear, the show is never the same.

With this ever-changing setlist of text, techno beats, and auto-tuned songs, Emma and Just bring something that resists any single definition: sometimes a hymn to change, sometimes a loving punch in the gut of everyone who fears it, about the longing to belong somewhere, and sometimes about the freedom of sitting right in between — where you get to decide entirely for yourself who you are or could be.

Inspired by writers such as Paul B. Preciado, McKenzie Wark, and Valentijn Hoogenkamp, and musicians like Charlotte de Witte and Charli XCX, Emma and Just present the first step in a longer project with fluidity as its overarching theme.
