Van Eigen Bodem

August 14 15:00 – 15:45 | Nagham Koor
Choir, Vrijdag in de Buurt
Performance by Nagham Choir, the newcomers' choir of Groningen led by Karam Shebat. The choir has a varied repertoire, singing songs in different languages and across multiple genres.

14 17:00 – 17:45 Wijkdichters Groningen | Dutch
Poetry/spoken word, Vrijdag in de Buurt

Performances (poetry/spoken word) by the five neighborhood poets of Groningen: Hannan van Rooij, Jakob de Boer, Bart Adjudant, Ron IJpma, and Willy Koolstra.

15 15:00 – 15:45 | Blaaskr’8

Ensemble, Kultuurloket
Blaaskr'8 is an ensemble formed from the wind orchestra Harmonie'67 from the city of Groningen — essentially a smaller version of the full orchestra. The wind players perform a varied repertoire, ranging from classical to modern pieces. Interested in joining Blaaskr'8? We’d love to see you on August 15th from 15:00 to 15:45 at Podium De Raaf during Noorderzon!

August 15 17:00 – 17:45 Jaimy Hindriks | Dutch
Cabaret & Poetry, Kultuurloket

During her primary school musical in year 8, Jaimy Hindriks wore her shirt inside out and backwards — and forgot her lines. Twenty years later, life still feels inside out and backwards, but she no longer forgets her words. Now she creates them herself. A Pickle Travels by Train is an ode to the wonderfully peculiar human being.

August 16 14:30 – 15:15 Toneelgroep Goed Begin | Dutch
Theatre, Vrijdag in de Buurt
Theatre group Goed Begin presents Dating Show Op Goed Begin, in which a group of singles sets out in search of love, choosing the most suitable match from a rather unusual selection of candidates. Chances are high that the host might end up walking away with the grand prize herself. And what about the love lives of the contestants afterwards?

Dating Show Op Goed Begin was created especially for Noorderzon. It’s an improvisational performance inspired by a mix of various dating shows and is performed by approximately fourteen players.

August 16 16:30 – 17:15 | Pride & Joy
Band, Kultuurloket
Acoustic trio Pride & Joy takes you back in time with music mostly from the '60s, '70s, and '80s — occasionally venturing beyond. The era of artists like David Bowie, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Who, and Jefferson Airplane comes back to life through the warm, rich vocals of singer Titia Doornbos and the sound of Auko Lemstra (guitar/vocals) and Freek Hartsema (guitar/harmonica). United by their passion for music from days gone by, they deliver a performance full of joy and enthusiasm.

August 17 16:30 – 17:15 | STU33
Hiphop/rap, Open Studio

STU33 is the music studio in Lewenborg where young people aged 12 to 27 tell their stories through a unique sound. It’s part of the Open Studio program, which is an initiative of BIJVRIJDAG. In collaboration with WIJ Groningen, youth worker Arne Hofstede helps connect young people with the studio. Under the guidance of music producer Stinna (Stijn Swarts) and musical coach Hesselini (Hessel Stoer), a mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, and House emerges—shaped by the experiences of a new generation. Raw, authentic, and boundlessly creative – STU33 brings the voice of the neighborhood to life.

August 18 15:00 – 15:22 Finnegan Henriquez & Roef Komduur
Band/duo, Kultuurloket

As a musical duo, Finnegan Henriquez and Roef Komduur often perform together. Both 17 years old, they play like young professionals — but always with a smile. One plays the piano like a grand master, the other lets loose on the saxophone like a true specialist. Roef studies saxophone at the conservatory, and Finnegan will follow next year. They’ve already performed at De Oosterpoort, played at various parties, and joined countless jam sessions. The music you’ll hear is highly diverse, yet every piece shares the same goal: to bring you joy and get you moving. They play a wide range of genres, from classic “old folks” jazz to pop — something for everyone to enjoy. A saxophone and piano duo of this age is a rare sight, so this is something you don’t want to miss!

August 19 17:00 – 17:45 Rostheater | Dutch
Workshop special stories, Kultuurloket

We start this workshop with an exercise where you recall as many details as possible from a memorable event you experienced, allowing you to ‘see’ and relive the moment. You’ll notice that a true story is full of details that make the event vivid, while in a fictional story, everything—including the details—is made up. A storyteller provides many details to make a story believable. Then I will tell some stories, and based on the initial exercise, you can try to determine which one really happened. After completing my history studies in Groningen, I faced high unemployment but managed to turn my passion for acting and directing into a profession. As a self-taught artist, I earned the nationally recognized diploma of theatre teacher, director, and performer and founded the Rostheater, working as a storyteller, director, and performer for various clients. Around 2000, I took a permanent position at the ICO art center in Assen as a theatre teacher and head of the theatre and musical department, while continuing my work with the Rostheater. In 2010, following widespread layoffs in the arts sector due to decisions by Halbe Zijlstra, my colleagues and I continued the ICO theatre and musical department independently without subsidies, integrating it into the Rostheater as the Ros Theatre and Musical School Drenthe, offering lessons for children, youth, and adults. In 2022, I sold the school upon retirement. Now I perform as a storyteller, create visual art, and have been admitted to the Classical Academy.

August 20 15:00 – 15:45 TriaMartina
Band, Kultuurloket

This trio consists of Theo Onnes on guitar, Jelmer Dijkstra on bass guitar, and Martina Huinder on vocals. They perform covers from the rich history of blues, soul, and pop music, giving them a completely unique twist. Delightful music to listen to.

August 20 17:00 – 17:45 Henrike Slagter, Ruben Vaatstra (BEKSTEEG) | Dutch
Hiphop/rap/theater, Open Studio

Your driving examiner fails you because he has to take care of his little dog, and you have to bite your nails at HBO level—thoughts like these aren’t usually shared at family outings. Allow us to introduce the theatrical duo TWEELUIK, who give discomfort a stage. Henrike Slagter channels her imaginative perspective on life into absurd texts—not about your successful or failed love life—while Ruben Vaatstra adds rhythm to these observations with electronic hip-hop.

August 21 15:00 – 15:45 | Voormalig Klein Koortje
Choir, Kultuurloket
The Former Small Choir has existed for over 35 years. The name comes from an earlier rehearsal space: the former small gate. We sing a cappella, from Rammstein to The Beatles, in Gronings, Dutch, English, and occasional excursions into German and French. Our conductor sings along with us during performances, singing bass (we are still looking for a second low bass!). We also have two bass/baritones, three tenors, four sopranos, and four altos. We are fortunate to have a few members who sometimes create their own arrangements or lyrics based on existing songs. But most importantly: we sing with great enthusiasm and joy, whether in Schier, Enschede, Drenthe, but especially in Groningen.

August 21 17:00 – 17:45 | Luna Hamelink
Acoustic songwriter, Kultuurloket
Luna Hamelink is a singer and storyteller from Groningen. While other singer-songwriters focus on writing contemporary stories, Luna’s mission is to breathe new life into old folk tales. “These stories are part of our intangible heritage, and many people forget them. That’s such a shame, so I hope to bring these stories to the attention of a wide audience through my songs, passion, and humor,” she explains. In 2021, she began her journey exploring folk tales from Northern Netherlands, including stories like Lubbe van Leermens and the Witte Wieven. Currently, she tells stories of land, sea, water, and everything in between—with a focus on the far north. Luna accompanies herself on guitar and sings her heart out during performances. As a listener, you’re drawn into the story and invited to sing along. If you don’t know the lyrics yet, no worries: they’re taught on the spot, and by the end, you’ll leave the performance singing or humming. If you want a preview of what she’ll perform, you can visit her website www.lunahamelink.nl.

August 22 15:00 – 15:45 | Popkoor Wilde Haren
Choir, Kultuurloket
Wilde Haren is the pop choir of Clockhuys, the Center for Art and Culture in Haren. For many years, about twenty enthusiastic singers have been performing well-known and lesser-known pop songs. The focus is always on polished singing, beautiful harmonies, and a cheerful appearance.

August 22 17:00 – 17:45 Studio T
Hiphop schowcase, Open Studio
Studio T is a young music collective from Groningen that originated within Open Studio’s, a place where young people can develop their creativity. In the studio, they work on their own sound: fresh productions, honest lyrics, and a powerful group dynamic. Studio T is more than just music. It’s a community centered around talent, collaboration, and personal growth. During Van Eigen Bodem 2025, the young artists will perform their own work, created in and for the city. An energetic and promising sound from a new generation of Groningen talents, straight from the studio to the stage.

August 23 14:30 – 15:15 | Kinder Van Eigen Bodem | Dutch
Kids poetry & choir, Vrijdag in de Buurt
During this afternoon, the talents of children from the neighborhoods of Groningen take center stage. Five young acts will raise their voices. Elin Grossi Michel, winner of the Kinderdichter Groningen final, will perform two of her poems. Alongside Elin, language virtuosos Rosalie Kakebeen and Romy Dijksterhuis will also shine on behalf of the Poetry Palace with their poetic recitations. Neshama Staring is the (very first!) children’s neighborhood poet representing VRIJDAG in the Buurt and will present texts inspired by De Hoogte and the Korrewegwijk. Additionally, the local children’s choir Kabaal will provide the musical sound for the afternoon!

August 23 16:30 – 17:15 | Anne Maaike & Erik
Acoustic, Kultuurloket
Anne Maaike is a versatile singer from Groningen who masters all styles! Whether she’s singing her own songs or covers, when Anne Maaike lets her voice soar, you’re transported out of the here and now. Her performance combines elements from her time at the conservatory, theater school, and art academy. Fall “down the rabbit hole” into the world of Anne Maaike. She will be accompanied by Erik de Jonge on guitar. Erik is a versatile guitarist from Groningen, known for everything from intimate acoustic settings to powerful rock performances. Whatever the setting, a successful event is guaranteed.
