Accessibility

We are aware that we are learning how to make the festival accessible. We are growing towards that every year. Ultimately, we want Noorderzon to be accessible for as many people as possible. To achieve this, we are looking at how we can make the festival even more accessible and we are advised by, for example, the Reading & Writing Foundation and Clubhouse for the Deaf Groningen/Deaf-friendly Groningen.

As the festival approaches, we will update this page with new details. Do you have any questions or suggestions in the meantime? Send an email to info@noorderzon.nl

Programme

All our performances are listed on the programme page, here you can filter by Accessibility. Below you will find an overview of our accessibility options for performances in the Noorderplantsoen and in Downtown Groningen. Performances that are accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing, that are wheelchair accessible, or accessible to all ages, can be recognised by the icons below.

If a show doesn't have one of these icons, we'll mark it as 'This show may be restricted'. You can always contact us for more information via tickets@noorderzon.nl

Language no problem
Performances with this designation are easy to follow, regardless of which language is spoken. This is more about the music, the game and what you get to see.

Suitable for those with a hearing impairment

Found suitable for the hearing impaired by the test panel of the Clubhouse for the Deaf (Groningen).

Accessible for wheelchairs

The space for wheelchairs that we have for each performance is limited. For more information, please contact us via tickets@noorderzon.nl.

Family performance

The main programme of Noorderzon is largely intended for (young) adults. Performances with this icon are also suitable for families with children between 6 and 12 years old.

Mobility and beyond the queue

Want to visit us but in doubt because you have a mobility impairment? If you are in a wheelchair, you can buy a separate wheelchair ticket at many performances. Do you have a mobility impairment other than a wheelchair and want to visit a performance? Or is it nice if you can enter earlier because of a disability? Then email tickets@noorderzon.nl, we will be happy to think with you.

Parking for disabled persons

There is also a parking space on the edge of the park, equipped for disabled persons. The parking space is located on the Nieuwe Boteringestraat. You can see the exact location on the Noorderplantsoen map as soon as we've posted a new one prior to the festival.

Accompaniment

Are you taking a supervisor or interpreter to a performance? Send us an email and we'll be happy to discuss it!

Low-stimulation places

The festival grounds - especially in the evenings and weekends - can be crowded. Avoid those times if you don't feel comfortable, or find a quiet spot in the Noorderplantsoen. Our festival site does not cover the entire park; there are still plenty of quiet spots without play venues or catering. There are no low-incentive zones designated within the festival grounds.
