Changes regarding the Noorderplantsoen festival area

At last: after two years this year’s edition of the Noorderzon festival can once again be held in the whole Noorderplantsoen area! In addition, we have implemented a couple of changes and improvements – the most important ones are listed below.

Accessibility
Let’s start off with what has remained the same: free accessibility of the Noorderplantsoen festival area, including concerts on its three music stages. For most of the performances in the Noorderplantsoen and Downtown Groningen area however, a ticket is required. All admission fees of these performances are always listed in the programme. For years now, we have managed to keep our admission fees as low as possible.

Noorderplantsoen festival map
The northern part of the Noorderplantsoen festival area harbours the following festival sites: the Pollux mirror tent, the Apollo open air stage as well as – along the central pond – the Paradijsvogel and De Raaf terraces as well as a new small music stage: the Podium De Raaf. The southern part offers a special kids area including De Kleine Beer, the De Vliegende Vis and Kameleon playgrounds, the Callisto music stage and the Castor mirror tent as well as many terraces. Scattered all over the Noorderplantsoen festival area are also all kinds of food and drinks spots.

Indeed (for those familiar with former Noorderzon editions), since 2021 we have parted from a few festival locations: the Romeo Tent, the Dok and the containers along the Leliesingel. The performances which were given at these locations are still offered yet relocated to other sites: (inter)national music at the Apollo, limited and short performances at De Vliegende Vis and Kameleon, while large-scale (circus) performances are given at different locations both in the Noorderplantsoen as well as in Downtown Groningen.

Last year we closed down the Dok music stage and replaced it by the brand new Apollo. Apollo proved to be a hit; it is a much better stage featuring a strongly improved sound quality, much better sightlines for both artists and visitors as well as the option of offering a broader programme. As we are so fortunate to be able to once again present a full blown Noorderzon festival this year, we look forward to welcome even more visitors to our Apollo stage. We are proud of this worthy successor of the Dok music stage.

All Apollo concerts are free. In addition, a great variety of musical acts can be visited for free at the Podium de Raaf and Callisto as well.
