Re-light the path

In a time seemingly filled with apocalyptic visions of the future, Bauzà and Jou attempt to take back the initiative and reclaim meaning within language. An attempt to restart the world, to re-light the path, and to re-imagine the songs we might sing.

This is a story about understanding the past to address our uncertain future. It is sung mostly in semi-darkness, looking for the light. The performance is a multi-dimensional invitation to re-imagine, the lines that define us, and to push back and blur those boundaries between bodies together and bodies apart.

A Beginning #1616D is a strongly physical incantation combining vocal and electronic compositions to create a dream-like kaleidoscope of impressions and exquisitely sung verses that hang sensually within the air that surrounds us. A Beginning #1616D is about the future that we all need to share.

If this is the beginning for Bauzà and Jou, expect them to go far

About the artist

Aurora Bauzà & Pere Jou are composers, creators, and performers working at the intersection of the performing arts. Their artistic research focuses primarily on the human voice and its intricate connections with the body, movement, space, stage, and light.

Their compositions transcend traditional artistic boundaries: music is approached as a multidimensional entity with physical, scenic, visual, dramaturgical, expressive, and poetic qualities. Choreography—viewed through an acoustic lens—merges seamlessly with musical composition, forming the core and dramaturgical structure of their interdisciplinary work.

Bauzà and Jou bring an almost obsessive curiosity in their effort to understand the contemporary human being—through the mechanisms by which meaning is constructed, particularly those involved in shaping individual and collective identities.

Their work, such as I Am (T)here and A BEGINNING_expanded version, has been presented at leading festivals such as the Grec Festival in Barcelona and La Bâtie in Geneva. Most recently, their piece A BEGINNING #16161D was selected for the Twenty24 edition of AEROWAVES.
