Guillermo Cacace

Gaviota / Meeuw

Sitting around a table, covered in crisps and wine, the audience gathers around 5 women. Love, broken ambitions, and a melancholy of unspoken longings; this virtuosic reworking of The Seagull from Chekhov has it all.

A melancholic tale of misunderstandings

Unrequited loves, shattered dreams, and a curious blend of longing and disillusionment all converge around a single, modest table. In this addictively intense free adaptation of The Seagull. The spellbinding direction of Guillermo Cacace breathes life into Anton Chekhov’s beloved classic by timelessly exposing all painful truths to our collective quest for happiness. Around the table are five characters, Chekhov’s classically flawed aristocrats, relentlessly pursuing happiness amidst personal and collective turmoil. As you take place at the table, it becomes impossible to escape all the unspoken action between the extraordinary acting of the five women, whose melancholic stillness of words engrave images as vivid as experiencing them firsthand.

Critically acclaimed director Guillermo Cacace has brought us the mesmerizing performance El Mar de Noche in 2018 and continues to impress with his ability to bring beauty into brokenness in his newest performance.

Shows like Gaviota, which put in check any expectation about what the representation should be, which do not tell the public where to applaud, where to laugh, where to get excited and which allow the circulation of a new and particular sensibility for each one, are the most sacred refuge that art will always have, in the face of the advance of virtual, domesticated and alienated life
