A slow-burn rebellion in a collapsing world

A giant screen invades the stage with colour and booming sound. Dream-like fragments of four different stories roll out of each other like a matryoshka doll; a couple who meet at a concert in Manchester, secret lovers in Athens, a transgender woman in Paris, a premiere at the Fenice Opera in Venice. La luz de un lago unfolds like a wild and colourful hallucination – slow, disorientating, hauntingly beautiful, with no clear way out.

Catalan collective El Conde de Torrefiel, led by Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert, return to Noorderzon with their signature defiance of theatrical convention, this time with a radical redefinition of our shared imaginations. A provocatively lucid and barren dream which resists any attempt at order.

A beautiful, intimate and contemplative piece that continues to explore the possibilities of her own stage language

About the artist

Tanya Beyeler (Lugano, 1980) and Pablo Gisbert (Ontinyent, 1982) established El Conde de Torrefiel in Barcelona in 2010. Their works transform theatrical spaces into poetic, critical reflections on modern society, challenging conventional stage language while creating immersive experiences. Performed at major festivals and venues worldwide, El Conde de Torrefiel's productions consistently push boundaries, using striking imagery and atmospheric storytelling to provoke thought and emotion.
