Dynamic social and political change have brought Chile to the front pages of the world’s press over recent years. In this theatricalised film-diary, 50 years after the brutal military coup d’état that brought Pinochet to power, the young director Malicho Vaca sets out to trace a changing country through personal memories and family anecdotes. Using Google maps to escort us through his life so far, from the hospital where he was born to the current lives of his grandparents, and passing by the current day street art that he feels connect him to his ancestors, he sets out gently wonderful simple stories of life in Santiago to reach deeper meanings and social insights.
In an outstanding and deeply touching piece of digital doc-theatre, we are accompanied on a quiet reflective journey through the fragile relationship between the abuses of the past and the hopeful dreaming of the present. Reminiscencia is a nostalgic reminder about how we can love our home, but also not to take the future for granted.
With after-talk on August 23rd at 9PM.
