Welcome to this intimate journey for you and about 40 other ‘tourists’. On a tiny stage, different objects seem to appear and disappear in no time. Light and shadow, analogue images, delicate mechanisms, paper and tin miniatures alternate. Poëtisc inventions, which take you back to former times, to the moment – or the feeling – that your toys actually were alive.
La melancolía del turista (The melancholy of the tourist) is a collaboration of two major object theatre companies: Hermanos Oligor from Spain and Microscopía Teatro from Mexico. In a rippling flow of dreamy illusions, the moments and images are analysed, which cause us to remember the one spot or event as a true paradise. Or which are presented to you as if they are in picture postcards or travel guides: a perfect world, which often simply ignore harsh reality. How long does it take to build such a paradise in your mind, and how long does it take to lose it? Why do we yearn for something that never really existed?
