Crew vacancies 2023

The largest group of volunteers at Noorderzon are the volunteers behind our bars. We are looking for people who enjoy serving drinks at the various bars on our festival grounds. Your work will mainly consist of: pouring drinks, tapping beer and settling payments with customers. You will also spend a lot of time decorating, tidying up and cleaning your location/bar. You work together with a large group of volunteers who are managed by our bar men. The main responsibility lies in the hands of our hospitality managers who manage a certain area within our festival. Catering experience is not required!

Do you enjoy working hard, but can you also sit still while getting acquainted with new colleagues and our audience? Then register as a volunteer for this position. Most of the shifts for bar volunteers take place daily between 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and between 7:00 pm and 1:00 am.

The minimum age for working in the catering branch at Noorderzon is 18 years. We have set up various bars for our audience on our festival site in the Noorderplantsoen. All these bars are 'ran’ by Noorderzon. This contrasts with the various eateries you will encounter on Noorderzon. These stands are owned by companies that Noorderzon has designated for this purpose. You cannot register for these stands through Noorderzon.

Noorderzon is looking for people for our many performance locations (Noorderplantsoen and Downtown) to ensure that our audience can visit the performances properly and safely. This means that in addition to checking (scanning) the tickets, you will point the audience to their seat before the performance and (possibly) provide some additional information. During the performance, you make sure that no other people will enter the venue. You will also guide the audience when they leave the venue after the performance. Occasionally, we will also ask you to help with the construction of the location before the start of the show (if necessary). When the performance ends, we might ask you the same thing. At each location you will receive instructions from the (assistant) location manager. This is also the person you can go to for questions during your shift.

If this is something for you, you can sign up as a volunteer for this position. Most shifts within public guidance and ticketing for volunteers take place daily between 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm.

The minimum age for working within public guidance at Noorderzon is 16 years. You must be at least 18 years old for the evening shifts.

We sell all the tickets for the performances at Noorderzon by ourselves, unless the performance is free. Tickets are mostly sold online, ahead of the festival, through our own website. During the festival, we have assigned several sales and information points, where the audience can physically buy tickets. In addition to tickets, we sometimes sell our merchandise or other items related to Noorderzon and its performances at these locations. At each location you will be accompanied by someone from our Ticketing Crew. You will always receive the (last) instructions from this person.

Would you like to come in contact with our audience and inform them about our programme while selling tickets? Then this is job as a volunteer at our festival is something for you. Most “shifts” for this position take place daily between 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM and between 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

We mostly provide the technology for all performances during Noorderzon by ourselves. Each venue works with a professional technical team consisting of a stage manager and light & sound crew. In addition to this crew, Noorderzon is also looking for volunteers who can support them. You will mainly help with the construction and dismantling of the sets, and sometimes you also have a specific role during the performance. All the work is supervised by the stage manager on site. For this position (a little) knowledge of theater technology is, of course, an advantage. However, if you are interested in diving into theater technology, we certainly have a place for you!

If you would enjoy helping us with the technical set up as a volunteer and if you want to gain experience in this field, then this might be your chance to become a volunteer at our festival. Most "shifts" for this position take place daily between 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and between 6:00 PM - midnight.

The minimum age as a tech volunteer at Noorderzon is 16 years. You must be at least 18 years old for the evening shifts.

Every year, we set up a special place on our festival site for our youngest visitors. The age of this group is between 4 and 14 years. We organise performances, various workshops and activities for them. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help and assist in this kids area.

If you enjoy working with children and are also a bit creative, then this would be a nice job for you. At this location you will be guided by our location manager, and often also by the artists and creators of these performances and workshops. This is the most creative, fun and young space at Noorderzon! Most “shifts” for this position take place daily between 11am – 6pm.

If you are between 12 and 16 years old, this might be a great opportunity for a first volunteer job at Noorderzon. In general, a minimum age of 16 years also applies here.

As Stage Manager, you play a central role at one of the venues that are part of Noorderzon. You manage a team of technicians and are guided and supported by the technical manager. With the start of the festival, all information will be transferred to you and you will be in close contact with the technical management. It is important that you are a team player, have a basic knowledge of technology (light, sound, video) and do not mind working at irregular hours (evening/night). It is the perfect opportunity to gain experience in leading a team.

As Bar Manager, you are responsible for managing the bar and the volunteers working there. You welcome volunteers at the start of their shift, instruct (when necessary) how the bar works and manage the volunteers. In addition, you are also involved in the daily stock management, arrangement, maintenance and administration of your bar. As Bar Manager, you will ensure a good atmosphere that radiates to all volunteers and the public. In this position, it is important that you are a calm and social person with some hospitality experience.

The Event-Host at Noorderzon is an essential job at the Noorderplantsoen-area, especially during opening hours, but also during build-up and breakdown of the festival. It is the most diverse function you can get at Noorderzon. Among other things, you are a point of contact for our audience and you direct them to, for instance, the venues and other facilities on our festival grounds. You are the ears and eyes of the festival and ensure good crowd flow at certain busy places. In addition, together with your team, you keep the festival grounds tidy and provide clean waste bins where necessary, check our facilities (such as toilets and bicycle racks) and assist where necessary. It is a job in which you experience all aspects of the festival. In this position, it is especially important that you like to be hands-on, task-oriented and are good at communicating with our audience.

The site crew is mainly involved in setting up and breaking down the festival. If you work within the site crew, you will be assigned various tasks by one of our (assistant) production managers. From pulling cables, hanging banners, setting up bars, placing signage, and installing fencing and 'barriers', to supplying catering outlets and other locations. The site crew makes sure everything is set up properly and safely. After the festival, the site crew makes sure everything is neatly taken down and cleared away. The site crew often works independently, but also in teams. As sitecrew at Noorderzon, you find no job too tough and you already have some experience in working on festivals and stages within this function.

We like to take good care of our artists and crew. Among other things, we do this in the specially equipped backstage area on the festival grounds in the Noorderplantsoen. Only artists and crew have access to this area for a quiet chat, but also for lunch and dinner. As backstage crew, you work in a team and take care of the daily lunch and dinner for crew and artists. The backstage is managed by our professional kitchen crew. Work as backstage crew includes helping to prepare and serve lunch and dinner, keeping the backstage area tidy, doing the dishes and taking care of the backstage bar at set times.
