FAQ

What is Noorderzon going to look like this year?

This year Noorderzon takes place in the Noorderplantsoen (the city park) and at various locations in Downtown Groningen: Forum Groningen, Grand Theatre, Lutherse Kerk, Machinefabriek, Museum aan de A, Vera, VRIJDAG Theater and Usva.

In the northern part of the festival site, you will find mirror tent Pollux, Margriet van Weenen in collaboration with Kunstpunt Groningen and a smaller tent Nova, open-air music stage Apollo, along the pond terraces Paradijsvogel and De Raaf and a small stage for music: Podium De Raaf. In the southern part, you will find an area especially for children: De Speelweide, music stage Callisto, performance venue Castor and several terraces. Divided over the park you will find a diverse range of food and drinks. There are also containers at four locations: at Noord next to Nova, on the Leliesingel, near the Paradijsvogel terrace by the pond, and towards the south at the junction with the Maartje Bospad.

How does it all work?

Certainly, the festival site in the Noorderplantsoen is freely accessible, just like the concerts at Apollo, Callisto and De Raaf. You do need a ticket for most performances in the Noorderplantsoen and Downtown Groningen, though.

We recommend coming on foot or by bike to the Noorderplantsoen or to the Downtown locations. Sufficient temporary bicycle parking facilities will also be provided surrounding the Noorderplantsoen area. In the centre – the area surrounding the Grand Theatre and the Forum – it is no longer allowed to park your bike on the street. Two permanent bicycle parking facilities have therefore been created in this area. Please check the website of the Municipality of Groningen for more information about these facilities.

Arriving from out of town? Then we suggest coming by public transportation. If you come by Arriva, you might indeed be so lucky to catch the one and only Noorderzon train! After arriving in Groningen we recommend coming to the festival area by bike, hiring a public transport bicycle might be a good idea for example. Many can be found at the Groningen Main Train Station, as well as at the Groningen North Train Station. They can be found in a limited amount of so-called bicycle lockers.

Crew vacancies 2023

The largest group of volunteers at Noorderzon are the volunteers behind our bars. We are looking for people who enjoy serving drinks at the various bars on our festival grounds. Your work will mainly consist of: pouring drinks, tapping beer and settling payments with customers. You will also spend a lot of time decorating, tidying up and cleaning your location/bar. You work together with a large group of volunteers who are managed by our bar men. The main responsibility lies in the hands of our hospitality managers who manage a certain area within our festival. Catering experience is not required!

Do you enjoy working hard, but can you also sit still while getting acquainted with new colleagues and our audience? Then register as a volunteer for this position. Most of the shifts for bar volunteers take place daily between 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and between 7:00 pm and 1:00 am.

The minimum age for working in the catering branch at Noorderzon is 18 years. We have set up various bars for our audience on our festival site in the Noorderplantsoen. All these bars are 'ran’ by Noorderzon. This contrasts with the various eateries you will encounter on Noorderzon. These stands are owned by companies that Noorderzon has designated for this purpose. You cannot register for these stands through Noorderzon.

Noorderzon is looking for people for our many performance locations (Noorderplantsoen and Downtown) to ensure that our audience can visit the performances properly and safely. This means that in addition to checking (scanning) the tickets, you will point the audience to their seat before the performance and (possibly) provide some additional information. During the performance, you make sure that no other people will enter the venue. You will also guide the audience when they leave the venue after the performance. Occasionally, we will also ask you to help with the construction of the location before the start of the show (if necessary). When the performance ends, we might ask you the same thing. At each location you will receive instructions from the (assistant) location manager. This is also the person you can go to for questions during your shift.

If this is something for you, you can sign up as a volunteer for this position. Most shifts within public guidance and ticketing for volunteers take place daily between 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm.

The minimum age for working within public guidance at Noorderzon is 16 years. You must be at least 18 years old for the evening shifts.
