Illusion as artform

It all happens right before your very eyes. And you have no idea how they do it. The innovative theatre performance by the French group Compagnie 32 Novembre is packed with charming illusions. Forget everything you think you know about illusionism and magic tricks: this young company creates its own standard of rules, truly revolutionising this genre in the process.

In A Vue. Magie Performative (In plain sight. Performative magic) six talented illusionists perform six near magical acts. Like true alchemists, they appear to distillate the essence of magic simply from raw basic materials. They are completely immersed in their act: their bodies, precision and craftsmanship all magically connected. In short delicate scenes they interchange identity, transcend objects and suspend bodies in the air. The laws of nature regarding matter, time, air – as well as life itself – are magically transformed. Though all separate ingredients of this performance are in plain sight present on stage, their combined usage will completely take you by surprise. Can you figure out how they do it?

About the artist

Compagnie 32 Novembre has moved away from the usual forms of magic and plays with the expectations that come with it. When Maxime Delforges and Jérôme Helfenstein first met, they were both passionate magicians fascinated by each other's worlds. They soon decided to work together to discover their common language. In 2011, they set up Compagnie 32 Novembre, in 2014 their first joint show CloC premiered.
